Is Pyrocal CCT the same as the BiGchar technology?
Yes, it is the same technology, just renamed to reflect the ongoing evolution of the core principles of continuous carbonisation in rotary multiple hearth carboniser.
Is it a continuous or batch process?
Pyrocal CCT (Continuous Carbonisation Technology) is fully continuous.
Is it an automated process?
Our systems typically use PLC controls, instruments and protection systems that allow push button start/stop and extended periods of unattended operation. Operators can view and control the systems via an internet connection, if desired.
Is it mobile?
The smaller models can be configured as mobile or relocatable systems.

What raw materials can be used?
Without pre-drying, nearly anything with a lower heating value (NCV) greater than 11 MJ/kg. That typically means feedstocks with a moisture content of less than 35%.
With pre-drying the limit on initial moisture content is around 78%.
Biomass contaminated by heavy metals, toxic compounds and “compounds of concern” such as pesticides, CCA, halogenated chemicals (eg. PFAS), can be handled with the correct system design and operation.
Asbestos and radioactive materials are not acceptable.
How much char is produced, how much ash, how much oil?
The typical yield of char is 25% on dry mass, however this varies depending on the biomass and the bias of the operating systems towards char or energy.
The system does not produce oil, or any other condensates.
What do they cost?
They are industrial equipment with a scope of supply that changes according to the customer’s needs, so costs can vary greatly from USD200k to more than USD2M. Expressing the costs in terms of return on investment, the equipment payback periods can be as little as 9 months or as long as 7 years.
Where do you manufacture and sell the equipment?
The equipment is manufactured entirely in Australia and is sold world-wide. Local certifications (eg. CE marking) is performed on a project by project basis.
